Title: Edgar Renteria Signing Event
Tags:
Blog Entry: Renteria is coming to town and doing a signing on June 11th one hour after the game at Ballpark Gallery. I wonder how many people will attend this event since I'm sure there is a ton of collectors out there trying to complete their World Series team sets. I for one need him on 3 different World Series items, BUT here is the question I pose to you collectors. Renteria's autograph is HORRIBLE! If you haven't seen it...look it up on Google Images or eBay and judge for yourself. Would you pay for an autograph that looks like chicken scratch if you didn't need to complete any team signed items?  Is it worth paying a good amount of money for a horrible autograph?  I don't think so.   This is a huge difference between athletes now and athletes in the past.  Hall of famers have beautiful, full name, legible autographs and worth every penny.  Check out a Orlando Cepeda, Jon Miller, or Willie McCovey.  Almost every letter and fully readable.  Players these days need to take a page from the past and make their autographs more legible.  Years down the line, if you didn't label your Renteria baseball, good luck trying to figure out who signed your ball.  Great person, just horrible autograph.
